The Langtang Valley Trek is a great hike. It is an excellent trek, although the ascent is higher than recommended. The landscape is breathtaking, and the trip is an unforgettable experience. It is possible to trek in the winter, but it is not recommended. Read on to learn more about Day 3, Day 4 and Day 5.
Winter trekking in Langtang Valley is possible but not recommended
If you are interested in attempting the Langtang Valley trek, there are several things that you need to know. First, you need to be physically fit. Winter trekking in the Himalayas can be challenging, as high passes stay closed. However, it is still possible to do this trek, provided that you’re prepared. Temperatures can drop to below freezing, so be sure to dress appropriately for the cold.
Day 3
After you complete Day 2 of Langtang Valley Trek, you will be ready for Day 3 of the trek. At the end of the day, you will arrive at Kyanjin Gompa, the highest village in the valley. This quaint town is set against a backdrop of snow-capped peaks. For most trekkers, this is the highlight of the trek. You will also find basecamps for the peaks Kyanjin Ri and Tserko Ri. This is a great place to enjoy the sunset and sunrise. If you are willing to venture further, you can also visit Yala Peak, but you will need special equipment for this.
Day 4
The best season for Langtang Valley Trek is during the spring months. The landscape turns green in this season, attracting nature lovers. The mornings are foggy and the afternoons are sunny, although temperatures can drop to the single digits. It is important to carry warm layers for the night, and to make sure you have a good waterproof jacket.
Day 5
The first leg of the trek begins in Ghoretabela, where you will begin to climb towards Langtang (3207m). From here, you will pass through cultivated fields and cross a steep hill before making your way up the gently sloping path. Soon, you will see a rocky ridge and then descend into a region dotted with rhododendrons and fir trees.
Day 6
Day 6 of Langtang Valley Trek is a short, easy hike, ending in Syabrubesi. During the descent, you’ll see traditional tree houses and local cheese factories. From Syabrubesi, you can drive to Kathmandu.
Day 7
A Langtang Valley trek is best undertaken in the autumn or spring, when the weather is generally mild. However, you should note that it can get chilly at night. The daytime temperature in the valley can be as high as 20 degrees Celsius, and in November, the temperature can fall as low as minus 5 degrees. As a result, you may need a warm jacket and fleece.
Day 8
You will be greeted by the stunning peaks of the Langtang region on Day 8 of Langtang Trek. The landscape is dominated by magnificent mountain scenery and lush rhododendron and bamboo forests. You will also witness the abundant wildlife. The area is home to more than a thousand plants, more than 150 species of birds, and numerous species of mammals. This is a trek that will truly captivate you.
Day 9
The trail begins its gentle ascent through forest, with the Langtang Lirung peak occasionally visible through the trees. You will eventually reach Ghora Tabela, a post of the Nepal Army and one of the highest villages in the Langtang Valley, at about 3,000 meters. Once the site of a Tibetan resettlement project, the village now has no permanent residents. Further on, you’ll pass temporary settlements for herders bringing their livestock to the high pastures during the summer. You may even get a glimpse of yaks as you walk along.
Day 10
Day 10 of Langtang Valley Trek begins with a hike up Langtang village, where you will encounter the survivors of the 2015 earthquake. Once a bustling town with lodges and other lodging, Langtang village is now nothing but a large rock field. While the town has been completely destroyed, you can still support the people who have survived the devastating earthquake. On the way up, you will also pass Mundu, where some buildings are still in use but are more modern.
Day 11
One of the highlights of Langtang Valley Trek is the Tamang Heritage Trek. This trek is built by the local community and is located close to the Tibetan border. It offers stunning views of the mountains and valleys. It is highly recommended to do this trek in the late summer or early autumn.
